Our History

Welcome to Kapra Fabrics, where the rich tapestry of our history is woven with the unyielding spirit of our founders.

Our story begins with Piara Singh Sachdev, whose journey during the tumultuous partition of India and Pakistan exemplifies the boundless ambition and resilience that laid the foundation for our legacy of excellence. Fleeing their homeland with nothing but determination and a yearning for a new beginning, Piara and his family embarked on a perilous journey that led them to establish Siriasia, the first iteration of what is now Kapra Fabrics. From humble beginnings, Piara Singh's unwavering commitment to honesty and integrity laid the cornerstone for our fabric empire.

At Siriasia, we quickly became known for our impeccable reputation for supplying high-quality shirting cloth to schools and government officials.

Piara Singh's unwavering commitment to paying on time and valuing credit above all else soon became the guiding principle for our entire company. We always maintained our principles, always selling with reasonable margins, and maintaining a strict one-price policy. It's no wonder that Piara Singh earned the nickname 'Mar Mita,' which translates to "death before disloyalty" in Punjabi, a testament to his unyielding devotion to his principles.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Piara Singh Sachdev's determination and resilience never wavered. He persevered through adversity, always striving to provide for his loved ones, even when our store burned down not once but twice, and faced repeated thefts of our precious fabric stocks.

His unwavering spirit and ability to bounce back stronger than before continue to inspire us today as we carry on his legacy.

In the third generation of Kapra Fabrics, Mr. Phornthep Sachdev, the current owner's father, played a pivotal role in expanding the company's reach. With a keen eye for business opportunities, he took charge of shirt fabric distribution and quickly grew our network of tailoring shops in Bangkok. As the tailoring boom hit Thailand and the country became one of the world's leading producers of high-quality suits, Kapra Fabrics played a crucial role by supplying the finest suit fabrics.

Mr. Phornthep seized the opportunity to introduce suit linings and expanded our reach to popular tourist destinations such as Pattaya, Samui, and Phuket, where we experienced a tremendous surge in demand. Today, Mr. Phornthep Sachdev remains an important advisor, sharing his expertise and guiding us as we continue to build on his legacy of innovation, quality, and commitment to excellence. At Kapra Fabrics, we are proud to honor the legacy of our founders and strive to continue their tradition of excellence.

Jai Sachdev, the current CEO, had aspirations of pursuing a career in journalism or the tech industry before joining the family business. Although he was hesitant to join the company, he realized that he had much to learn from the family's legacy. Jai's first attempt at entrepreneurship in the tech industry was unsuccessful, but he persevered, gaining valuable skills and experience that would later help him to modernize the family business. Despite his initial reservations, Jai returned to the family company as a salesman, going door-to-door to sell fabrics in Thailand. It was during a low-budget backpacking trip that he had a breakthrough moment. Jai saw the potential for global growth and began to envision a modern, digital future for Kapra Fabrics. He met Mark, the current Creative Director, in Barcelona. Together, they transformed Kapra Fabrics into a modern, digital business by creating an online presence and taking professional photos of all the fabrics, enabling customers from around the world to browse and purchase products online. Jai's journey and determination have been instrumental in Kapra Fabrics' success as a global brand.

After dominating the Southeast Asian tailoring industry, Jai became the sole distributor for several world-renowned brands, and other companies approached him to seek his advice on growing their businesses digitally. Although he co-founded Huddersfield Textiles and is currently its managing director and Chief Operating Officer, Jai's passion remains with Kapra Fabrics, where he serves as the CEO and continues the family legacy.
